Jerry was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. Jerry attended high school at Skyline High School, the largest four year public high school in the country, and served as Student Body President and Captain of the debate team. He then went on to the University of Texas at Arlington on a scholarship where he earned a double B.A. with majors in Political Science and Speech Communication. While at UTA, Jerry and his partner qualified for the National Debate Tournament capping off a successful career competing in college debate tournaments across the country. Jerry attended and graduated in two years from law school at South Texas School of Law and was a member of their nationally recognized moot court program where he also traveled throughout the country competing in moot court tournaments against other law school advocacy programs. Prior to engaging in private law practice, Jerry was selected as the briefing attorney for Chief Justice J. Curtis Brown of the Fourteenth Court of Appeals in Houston for one year. Jerry is a shareholder in the law firm of Owen & Fazio, P.C. Prior to establishing Owen & Fazio, P.C. on June 1, 2002, Jerry practiced law with Dodge, Fazio, Anderson & Jones, P.C. and Burford & Ryburn in the areas of general insurance defense litigation and nonsubscriber claim defense.

Jerry has successfully represented companies and individuals accused of committing various negligent acts that have caused personal injuries throughout the State of Texas since 1989. Jerry’s representation of over one thousand Texas nonsubscriber employers is unmatched. Jerry has just won his second case in three years representing nonsubscriber employers before the Texas Supreme Court. On February 9, 2007, Jerry prevailed in Jack in the Box v. Skiles, 221 S.W.3d 566 (Tex. 2007) and on May 7, 2010, Jerry obtained a mandamus in the Texas Supreme Court against a trial court that refused to enforce an arbitration agreement between an employer and employee in the case In re Odyssey Healthcare, Inc. & George Portillo, 310 S.W.3d 419 (Tex. 2010).

Jerry is an AV preeminent rated attorney by Martindale Hubbell. In addition, Jerry is a recipient of the 2013 Super Lawyer in the field of personal injury defense; in 2012 and 2014 Jerry was selected as a Texas Super Lawyer in the field of personal injury defense that was published in the October issues of Texas Monthly magazine; again, Jerry has just been chosen as a 2015 Texas Super Lawyer. For two years in a row, Jerry was also selected by his peers as one of the “Best Lawyers in Dallas” in the area of personal injury defense published in the May 2007 and June 2008 editions of D Magazine. Jerry, again, has been selected as a 2014 “Best Lawyer in Dallas” in the area of personal injury defense.

Jerry is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, in all state courts in the State of Texas along with being admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Oklahoma and Colorado, and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, United States District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western District of Texas as well as the Northern, Western and Eastern Districts of Oklahoma.

Jerry is the Vice-President of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel where he has received the TADC Presidential Award for Leadership on two occasions, and Secretary of the TADC. Jerry was also selected to the International Association of Defense Counsel. Jerry is a member of the Texas College of the State Bar of Texas, a Fellow in the Texas and Dallas Bar Foundation, the Defense Research Institute, the Dallas Bar Association, the Oklahoma and Colorado Defense Counsel Associations, and a certified mediator.

During his time away from work, Jerry enjoys playing golf, speaking to groups and traveling. Jerry is a resident member of Royal Oaks Country Club. He has served on the Board of Directors for Camp Summit, Inc. and was awarded the Remarkable Volunteer for 2008, attends St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and is a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #799. Jerry is passionate about helping people and having fun.
